Saigon Union of Trading Co-operation (Saigon Co.op) is actively pursuing initiatives to promote sustainable trade. Through these efforts, the cooperative is committed to fostering environmentally responsible development.
Numerous programs to encourage green consumption within the community
As one of the largest Vietnamese-owned retail chains with more than 800 outlets nationwide, Saigon Co.op not only focuses on retail operations but also aims to build a clean agricultural supply chain, support environmentally friendly products, and invest in waste sorting and recycling infrastructure.

Co.opmart encourages customers to use reusable bags when shopping.
A recent milestone for Saigon Co.op is its participation in EcoHub – Vietnam’s first e-commerce platform dedicated to green products.
This effort seeks to expand its portfolio of eco-friendly items, especially its private label products, while connecting with suppliers whose production processes meet green standards, utilize recyclable packaging, and are environmentally friendly. Saigon Co.op’s presence on EcoHub not only affirms its market position but also plays a crucial role in laying the foundation for future "green supermarket" models.
Beyond supplier engagement, Saigon Co.op has also launched numerous programs to encourage green consumption within the community. One of its most notable initiatives is the "Vietnamese Family – Green Ambassador" program, where consumers can access green products such as organic food and biodegradable packaging at discounts of up to 50%.
Additionally, programs like "Green Refill," which offers vegetables to customers who bring their own fabric bags, and "Exchange Old for New," which allows customers to trade old plastic items for new green products, have received strong consumer participation.
Saigon Co.op has also partnered with international organizations to install waste collection and sorting machines for plastic, cans, and organic waste directly in its supermarkets, enabling consumers to practice green lifestyles in a convenient and consistent manner.
From a supply chain perspective, since March 2025, Saigon Co.op has signed agreements with six cooperatives and clean agricultural producers to supply over 500 tons of safe, organic, and traceable products each month.
The company imposes strict green criteria on its suppliers, requiring reduced use of harmful substances, environmentally friendly packaging, and conservation of water and energy, along with participation in social responsibility programs.
With the goal of increasing the volume of green products by at least 15% annually, Saigon Co.op is building a closed-loop green value chain encompassing production, transportation, consumption, and recycling.
Through these efforts, the company is not only establishing itself as a model in green retail but also spreading sustainable consumption awareness throughout the Vietnamese community.
